Old Business

TV interview:

Larry thanked Jerry for arranging the TV interview.  Roy and Alastair did a great job in the interview.  Jerry suggested that we could arrange for an interview every year, shortly before the Club Show/National Coin Week.  Next year’s show (April 18) is closer to National Coin Week.

Club Show:

Thanks to everyone who took time out to help staff the Club’s table at the entrance.  The new banner was on display.

Surveys:  Only 70 were filled out.  Next year we should be more persistent in getting replies on the slips of paper.  Perhaps position the tables better, so as to stop and greet everyone entering.  (Some entered by the other door.)

Roy reported that everyone seemed to be buying at the show, with very few selling to the dealers.

New Members:

The Club gained 9 new memberships at the Show:

[4 people had checked more than 1 box (= 6 extra votes)]

Total replied 70 (total votes 76)

Library Exhibit and Renaissance Fair:

Larry stated that there was a positive feedback from the Library display and also at the South Middle School Renaissance Fair – lots of people stopped by to look and ask questions.  There was a donation left at the library from a young boy (an Illinois State Quarter to add to the collection on display). He left his name at the desk, so Catherine was able to write a thank-you note to him (Blazej Cholewinski). As it turned out, he attended the South Middle School Renaissance Fair, and greeted us at the display table.

New Business:

Charly asked Roy about the dates for his Coin Shows.

They are: September 21, October 26, December 14, February 15.

Roy has reserved Sunday, April 18th, for the Club Show, using the expanded room at Holiday Inn.

Larry:  In the fall, we need to take a survey about tables required by club members.

Charly: asks whether it could be justifiable to have 2 club shows per year?  Previously decided not to, because of bad turnout at one of them.

Roy: We can check into it again.

John T:  suggested that all involved write notes while fresh in minds, about improvements for next year’s show, club table, survey form, etc….

Larry: going to start on a checklist for the shows – for things to be done.  Posters, and small posters for limited-space bulletin boards.  Get some committees set up to work on this.

Bob:  Prior to first meeting of the year, put some money into advertising and getting the word out.

Larry:  Newspaper’s calendar of events?

Roy:  Was told by the newspaper that once we added a regular event to their calendar, the notice would appear on time, but he hasn’t checked recently to see if the reminder about club meetings has been appearing.

Larry: Proposed a motion for our next show date to be April 18th, 2004.

Seconded:  Catherine.

Motion passed.

Roy will send the signed contract back, for expanded room area.

Roy: requests permission to use the road signs recently made for the club, for his own shows, and will maintain them.

Larry and Doug agreed to this, and the meeting was in agreement.

Doug:  Request for reimbursement for some portion of the sign expenses.  Spent about $100, will be happy with $70.  The signs have good new stands.

Roy:  Offered to pay $50 towards the expense.  (Check received by Secr/Treasurer.)

Meeting closed at 8:00.

Quiz:  Prizes for the top 3.  State Quarter Trivia Quiz organized by Larry.
